Pure HANDKNIT has been celebrating the craft of hand knitting every season since their first sweater collection in 1998. Truly passionate about knitwear, each sweater is individually knit by hand in 100% cotton. Their sweaters feature distinctive buttons such as oversized coconuts, whimsical shells, and unique ceramic and hand-punched tins designs.

Headquartered in Canada, with production in Thailand, Pure HANDKNIT employs over 4500 women knitters. As a leading model in providing ethical work standards, Pure Handknit offers all of their staff in Chiang Mai company paid health care including maternity leave. They also pay for continuing education, including free English classes and even advanced degrees. Ensuring that nothing goes to waste, they donate excess yarn from their cotton sweaters to various organizations and women’s groups who use it to generate income through projects.

Pure Handknit incorporates sustainable practices not only into their collection, but also at their business. Currently, both the Canadian head office and their Chiang Mai location use solar power to heat the water. They have installed extra insulation in their buildings to keep the staff warm in Canada and cool in Thailand. Pure Handknit recycles of all the cardboard, paper, plastic, metal and glass used at their locations. Their warehouse in Chiang Mai has planted dozens of trees to provide shade and green areas for their staff to enjoy while also offsetting their carbon footprint.

While production is based in Thailand, orders are mostly shipped by sea to lessen carbon emissions, and saving the planet some excess C02. Furthering their green initiatives, they create their dyes in-house through a process that is 100% pollution free. Their efforts for bettering the world expand beyond green practices and reaches out to the community. As their company grows in Chiang Mai, their facility creates spinoff jobs, such as drivers for their free shuttle service and cooks for the free lunch they offer to their employees.

If you are a fan of the Neon Buddha line, you are sure to love Pure Handknit as they both are part of Pure and Company, and share the same look and feel.

A truly sustainably minded company, we are proud to feature Pure Handknit’s gorgeous 100% cotton hand knit sweaters on LISSA the shop!
