FLAX Size Guide

FLAX offers their own unique sizing. Below is a guide comparing FLAX sizes to a range of number sizes that you may wear in other brands.

Flax linen is best when worn slightly loose, to be shapely but not fitted. We encourage you, both for longevity of your favorite styles and our intended design, to embrace the generous cut of our clothing.

Gauze-like textures especially, should be worn loose. They are more delicate, with fibers that may tighten up slightly when washed, but will regain their shape upon wearing or gently steaming. Flax garments are pre-washed and dried.

FLAX sizing below are approximate US Standard Sizing equivalents.

About FLAX

The Flax/Urban Flax clothing line by FLAX is designed for the woman who is adventurous, warm, bright, talented, generous and fun. Specializing in simple linen separates that are both classic and modern, and always easy-going, the FLAX line of clothes are no-nonsense wardrobe staples that last and are fun to make your own. Since each FLAX linen garment is versatile and beautifully made, they are long-lasting and easy to build upon with each coming season.

Back in the late 1980s, in upstate New York, just outside of Ithaca, Designer Jeanne Engelhardt and her husband Matthew started Angelheart Designs as a cottage industry business in an old dairy barn, with handmade clothes for sale without retailers. A trip to post-Soviet Empire Lithuania changed things: with abundant linen to buy and many underutilized factories following the transition to a market economy after the collapse of the Soviet Empire, Engelhart found a worker-owned, women-run collective and renamed her line Jeanne Engelhart Flax. Sales in the U.S. started in 1993. To this day, you can only buy FLAX clothes at boutique stores and online retailers, and the brand has become wildly popular over the years.
